    Working Lurcher Breed Types

The lurcher is an extremely fast intelligent running dog, not a pure breed, but is extremely fast and hardy, crossbred sighthounds, generally crossed with a sighthound and any other breed that would hope to improove different needed characteristics. Usually a pastoral type dog or terriers are used, Collie crosses have always been very popular with the hunt enthusiast, other popular crosses are the whippet and wheaten or Irish terrier, the deerhound, staghound etc...

Lurchers can be crossed several generations and will always remain a lurcher.

    "Super Intelligent, Extremely Fast"
I have personally hunted with two cracking lurchers from a beautiful small town in the UK's north of england, a town called Colne, both these dogs were deerhound and greyhound crosses, these lurchers were super intelligent, when taken out of there kennel they would know where they were going and knew exactly what they needed to do once we got there, the lurchers names were Bess and Jock, cracking looking dogs, both worked really well together as team, Bess would put in the long run on the hare and Jock would without being directed watch the way the hare was headed, he would wait trembling with excitement and checking, scoping out the area and when he thought he had it timed just right, he would dash off jumping gates, stone walls and ditches to help his team mate and sister Bess.

    Just super intelligent, extremely dogs.
